Willa and her family live in a mining town in West Virginia. Life has always been tough for the Lowell family, but when the Great Depression shuts down the mine, things get even more difficult. Miss Grace brings a ray of hope to their desolate town. She provides clothing, books, a friendly face, and soon, a way out for some.
